ESL 500 Exemption Request Form 2023
ESL 500: Graduate Communication Skills for Multilingual Learners
This noncredit course is required to graduate. It must be taken in your first semester at Rollins. Multilingual students benefit from enhancing their English language skills, graduate-level writing skills, presentation skills, and professional communication skills.
ESL 501 in the Spring semester, is also required.
All entering international students must register for one section of ESL 500.
However, we recognize that not all international students need English language support.
Successful completion of ESL 500 (Fall semester) and ESL 501 (Spring semester) is a graduation requirement for all international students who do
not
receive a waiver for exemption.
To be eligible for a waiver, a student must be a native English speaker (grew up speaking English at home and/or at school), OR have
both
:
A minimum of two years of undergraduate education in the United States or other English-speaking country; and
A TOEFL score of

100 OR IELTS score of
>
7.5.
To apply for a waiver, please complete and submit the form below no later than June 20. Waiver requests will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
